Ideation Phase - October 8th
Idea #1: Magnetic Ostomy Bag
- HTV-SR ceramide is the base plate for a comfortable seal.
- The ostomy bag would attach to the base plate magnetically allowing for a simple change.
Idea #2: Single-use Ostomy Bag
- HTV-SR ceramide is the base plate for a comfortable seal.
- The bag would be thrown away after each use to avoid the hassle of draining.
Idea #3: Drawstring Ostomy Bag
- HTV-SR ceramide is the base plate for a comfortable seal.
- Sewing a drawstring on the ostomy bag so that it can be closed with a string rather than the traditional pinch and close method.
Prototyping Phase - October 15th

The drawstring design for the ostomy bag is used as a reference for the final product.
- The latch system contains a raised edge on the base plate with the drawstring on the ostomy bag being able to be caught on the ledge.
- When the strings are pulled, the ostomy bag will shrink creating a seal around the baseplate.
- This led to an easy way for people with arthritis to close the bag and the design fulfilled all our patient needs.
- While the team came up with the idea, I helped with the assembly of the prototype.

Final Deliverable Product - October 25th
3-Minute Video Deliverable

Screen capture of video editing and the final video deliverable.
For the final video, I learned how to compile all the videos together using DaVinci Resolve, a video editing software. The video was filmed by me and my team demonstrated the prototype.

These are the components of the final prototype. From the left: HTV-SR Ceramide Ring, leveled base plate, and ostomy bag with drawstring.
The red plastic was modeled on Inventor and printed to fit the ostomy bag.
One Page Slide Deck

Screen capture of the layers and overview of the one-page slide deck background created on PhotoPea.
For the background of the slide deck, I created the visuals using PhotoPea, a free image editing software. Using a variety of images I tried to elicit the feeling of relief and comfort by showing an elderly person spending time with their grandson.
